Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy programs develop graded independence of an individual's functioning.

Assessment of the individual's level of function enables the therapist to design tasks with the goal of helping individuals to become increasingly independent.

For those patients of working age, assessments are made of physical capabilities and ability to work.

Having identified needed skills these become the priority of treatment.

Physiotherapists design specific programs aimed at achieving the highest levels of physical functioning. Programs are developed to suit the needs of the patient. This includes assessment and treatment aimed at improving muscle strength, joint range, body balance, posture and independence in activities of daily living. Patients are under continual supervision and review.

Social Work

A Social Worker is available to every rehabilitation patient. Activities include these professionals as part of the multidisciplinary offering.

  • Rehabilitation counselling
  • Individual counselling
  • Family therapy
  • Psycho-social assessment

Resources and informational are provided to assist patients and their families to make informed decisions regarding their future care, rehabilitation and other needs.

On discharge, referrals are made where necessary to appropriate community services, follow-up support and counselling services.

Warm water exercises may be employed to strengthen the muscles and improve balance and gait. The pool is designed to allow easy access by means of a gently slope into the water. Exercises are supervised by a physiotherapist at all times.
